What is illegal is using these devices to play pirated backup game disc copies that you do not own the original of
Even renting a game then copying or ripping it then returning the original is illegal & wrong

The Purpose of a modchip
The sole purpose of a modchip is to assist in playing of original games purchased overseas or games you may develop yourself which would not be possible in your console due to territorial restrictions & to also take your console overseas with you on holidays to play all local retail and hired games, without the modchip this would not be possible
Remember to always purchase original game discs this will support the developers to make & produce great games because without them we would not be able to enjoy our consoles

Will A Modchip Burn Out My Laser
The modchip wont effect the operation of the laser or any of its control circuits
However the game disc quality is more important & will effect the laser life
Poor quality media tends to drive the tracking & focus coils of the laser harder as the laser attempts many times to read the data from the game discs. This results in overheating of the laser coils & see you later, gone
That's why with all our mods we install laser protection, a circuit that limits the current & voltage to the coils.
So even with bad media the coils are limited to how hard they run.

Modchip or Memor 32 card
Well that's a good question the memor 32 card is external there is no need to open the PS2 console PS2 console
Hence no laser protection (read will a mod burn out my laser) we are finding now that laser burn out with this device is common & not recommended by AusGameStore
