What is illegal is using these devices to play pirated/backup copies of games that you do not own the original of.
Even renting a game then copying or ripping it, and returning the original is illegal and wrong.

The Purpose of a mod
The sole purpose of a mod is to assist in playing of original games purchased overseas and or games you may develop yourself which would not be possible in your console due to territorial restrictions and to also take your console overseas with you on holidays to play all local retail and hired games, without the mod this would not be possible.
Remember to always purchase original games this will support the developers to make and produce great games because without them we would not be able to enjoy our consoles..

Will A Mod will Burn Out My Laser
The mod wont effect the operation of the laser or any of its control circuits.
However the disk quality is more important and will effect the laser life.
Poor quality media tends to drive the tracking and focus coils of the laser harder as the laser attempts sometimes many times to read the data from the disks. This results in overheating of the coils and see you later, gone.
That's why with all our mods we install laser protection, a circuit that limits the current and voltage to the coils.
So even with bad media the coils are limited to how hard they run.

Mod or Memor 32 card
Well that's a good question the memor 32 card is external the PS2 is not opened for this mod.
Hence no laser protection (read will a mod burn out my laser) and we are finding now that laser burn-out with this device is common and not recommended by AusGameStore
